Shaking up the Third Ward

I’ve only been to Shake Shack once, but it sure was enough to get me excited when I read that the chain would be opening its first Wisconsin location in the Historic Third Ward by the end of the year.

Actually, it’s kind of a funny story how I even ended up waiting in line for a burger there in the first place, and it involves Broadway, of course.

My boyfriend and I were on our way from Milwaukee down to Chicago to see Book of Mormon last summer. This was my third time seeing the musical and his first. We made reservations somewhere downtown, but as anyone who’s driven through Chicago can guess, traffic messed that up. So, after saying, “hasa diga traffic,” we parked near the PrivateBank Theatre. Luckily, Shake Shack was right around the corner on Michigan Avenue.

The line was probably 10 minutes long, but let me tell you, when you’re staring at a menu filled with all sorts of shakes and concretes, 10 minutes fly by way too fast! I finally settled on a concrete with chocolate fudge mixed in… heavenly! After all, “every dinner needs a side dish on a slightly smaller plate,” right?!

IMG_0966All in all, it was a great dinner, followed by a show that never fails to make me laugh until I’m physically in pain and gasping for air. And yes, I did see the boyfriend chuckling at some of the jokes out of the corner of my eye.

So, for all the Broadway fans reading this blog post, I hope you’re thinking, “you’ve done an awesome job, Kevin Jen,” with this cheesy little post. And for those of you who have no clue what half of these references are, but just wanted to read about Shake Shack, thanks for bearing with me as my inner-Broadway nerd came out.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go listen to the soundtrack on Spotify for the millionth time.
