No Bake, No Hassle: Rice Krispie Treats


I try to challenge myself to make one meal or dessert each week that’s out of my comfort zone. Maybe it takes a little while longer, maybe it’s labor intensive, or maybe it’s so detailed that I need to double or triple check each step.

For every hard recipe I try, I believe it’s also essential to have something quick and simple in my back pocket. Something I can whip up at the last minute. Something that involves kitchen staples.

That something could definitely be a batch of Rice Krispie Treats.

It took all of 10 minutes to prepare, and an additional hour at the most to cool down. Since I made the rice krispie treats for my coworkers who would be working alongside me on the 4th of July, I made sure to include stripes on top with red and blue sprinkles of all shapes and sizes. The stripes were meticulously measured out, as you’ll see in the recipe below, while the mix of sprinkles added a little bit of a whimsical flair. Side note: I loved the sprinkles so much that I’m already thinking about other desserts that could use a little extra pizzaz.

Oh, wait… I haven’t even mentioned the best part!  Once I melted together the butter and marshmallows and stirred it all up with Rice Krispies Cereal, I dropped in a couple extra handfuls of mini marshmallows. The mixture was still fairly warm at this point, so the extra marshmallows melted a tiny bit, but not enough to lose their distinct shape and taste. I loved adding them because they helped strike up a great mixture of gooey and crunchy bites.

If you’re looking for the easiest of all easy recipes, this one takes the cake krispie! Three ingredients. No bake. No hassle!

Rice Krispie Treats

Three ingredients. No bake. No hassle.

  • 3 tbs unsalted butter
  • 5 cups mini marshmallows divided, 4 cups and 1 cup
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies Cereal
  • sprinkles optional


  1. Melt butter over low heat in a large pan. 

  2. Add four cups of mini marshmallows and stir until melted.

  3. Remove pan from heat and pour in the cereal. Gently stir until the marshmallows and cereal are fairly well mixed.

  4. Add remaining cup of marshmallows to the mix and stir until mini marshmallows blend in without losing their shapes.

  5. Pour the mixture into a 9" X 13" greased pan. Press the mixture down evenly and firmly until it covers the pan entirely. 

  6. OPTIONAL: Line wax paper strips across the pan and press down lightly until the paper sticks in place. Think of this step like using Painter's Tape. Pour sprinkles over the pan. 

  7. Allow the pan to cool for roughly an hour, then remove the wax paper tape and slice up the rice krispie treats.

      Thank you!! I went a little crazy choosing the different kinds of sprinkles at the grocery store but I loved how they turned out ☺️
