Urban Beets has opened its second location in Wauwatosa, bringing new vegan-friendly options to the city. Urban Beets celebrated its grand opening in late August in the former Milwaukee Career College building at the corner of Highway 100 and Burleigh. The restaurant is surrounded by medical and wellness-related offices.
“I think a lot of people really embraced it,” Urban Beets Cafe’s charitable events coordinator, Jess Flagg, says. “I’ve never seen so much feedback on social media about people being excited for us to be in a certain location. A lot of people have said, ‘You know, this will be my favorite stop on the way to the gym or after,’ so I think this was a really good selection as far as that goes. I think we fit in really well.”
The new location brings patrons a new beverage option: Kombucha on tap.
“[Kombucha] is kind of similar to beer on tap,” Flagg explains. “It’s pressurized similarly, so you can get a keg of it and filter it through to a tap. It’s a fun thing to try if you want to go sit at the bar with your friends but you don’t want to drink alcohol.”
Flagg says the Wauwatosa location will also have an additional beer on tap and new wines. She hopes to book musical guests as well, in order to establish a nighttime scene at Urban Beets. The restaurant is also planning to launch trivia nights.
“We’re really focused on making this a place to hang out and congregate,” Flagg says. “We’re really happy to be a quick stop for people on their way to work, but we also really want people to talk about stuff here. We’re really big about animals and we’re really big about community, so we want those things to be appreciated when people come here.”
Flagg says the menus between the Milwaukee and Wauwatosa restaurants are similar so that people who go to both don’t feel confused. She recommended the following menu items:
- The U Beets Reuben: Corned beets, sauerkraut, relish, Russian dressing, daiya cheddar, on marble rye (GF | NF)
- Sunrise Sammy: Homemade “sausage” patty made from GF oats, flax, chia and spices, topped with tomato, spinach, red onion, sriracha mayo on an English muffin (GF option | NF)
- The Smoky BLT Burger: A homemade patty of beans, carrots, walnuts and GF oats and spices, topped with coconut bacon, tomato, romaine and BBQ mayo on a pretzel bun
